Planting - Caring - Bio

A new concept in the heart of Sintra.

We really believe there is a better way to eat and, for us, taste says it all. Fundamentalisms aside, there's nothing better than freshly harvested food, produced without chemicals and with a few bites of approval from our fellow gardeners 🐌

Back to the roots

Who doesn't love “going to the land” and coming back with bags full of the family's vegetables and fruit or even receiving a basket full of home-grown produce, grown and harvested by the neighbor? The idea is that you can have this all year round!

Sobre a quinta

Located in the foothills of the Serra de Sintra, we started the Quinta da Ribeira project in July 2020, on a plot of land that between the 1950s and 1990s was an area of greenhouses producing flowers, specifically dahlias.

After this period, the farm was left abandoned and only recovered by us in 2020. There was a lot of garbage, such as plastics and pipes.

It all started that summer.

It all started that summer with the clearing of the land and the subsequent manual cleaning of all these materials that were scattered throughout the farm.

Because it was a former greenhouse area, the amount of plastic on the surface of the land was enormous, so we spent much of the month of August collecting this material, often piece by piece.

At the end of August, the land was cleared of plastic.

At the end of August we started turning over the soil and preparing the land for planting, and in September of that same year we started installing the first crops.

Since then we have been making the most of the land, trying to create, with what is available, a solid base that correlates the quality of the space with organic production. We've rebuilt the ruins, created our market, made paths and fences, and above all, we've been developing our brand.

We want to grow! And we want to share our concept with everyone, inviting our customers to come and see the space.

We want to grow!

About the founder

My name is Manuel Serrano, I'm 30 years old, I've lived between Lisbon and Sintra all my life and when this challenge came up, I moved to the area that gave me the most to grow.

I've always had a great passion for agriculture, which is why I started studying Agronomic Engineering at the ISA as soon as I finished secondary school. In my first year of my master's degree, the opportunity arose to take over this spectacular piece of land, and that's when I went ahead with this project.

The opportunity to develop this project has given me great growth.

The opportunity to develop this concept arose after Sintra City Council launched a competition to make rustic land available (for rent) to anyone interested in exploiting it for agricultural purposes. I ended up winning the competition, and from then on I dedicated myself to making it bigger and bigger with the existing resources!
